Masters of Acoustic Music: Nickel Creek

This next band I am going to feature on my Masters of Acoustic Music series is one of my all time favorite bands.  They have a unique sound that is unmatched by any other band.  They back up amazing instrumental performances with solid vocals and smooth harmonies.  They also feature THE greatest mandolin player to ever walk the earth in Chris Thile.  They are, Nickel Creek.

Nickel creek has been playing together since they were kids.  The guitar player, Sean Watkins, and the fiddle player, Sara Watkins, are siblings while Chris Thile, on mandolin and bouzouki, is a close friend.  Each of their 3 albums have been nominated for a Grammy.  Their album "This Side" won a Grammy award for  best contemporary folk album in 2003.  While they have sadly went their separate ways, this band was one of the greats and certainly worthy of the title Master of Acoustic Music!
